Empowering Widows

Women, particularly widows with children are a marginalized segment of society. They have little access to community resources and skills development centres to help them build up their products & skills to stand on their own feet.

Without the means to buy tools, seeds, crops, purchase animals and invest in business, there is little way out of poverty for vulnerable women.

“Who will lend Allah a good loan so that He can increase it many times?” (Qur’an, 2:245)

Futures ahead

At Islamic Relief, we don’t believe in simply distributing aid to communities in need. We instead fund futures. We aim to give the poorest and most vulnerable people across the world a chance to transform their lives for the better.

By empowering women to increase their own household income and break out of the brutal cycle of poverty, they have the ability to provide for themselves and their families for generations to come.

We offer environmentally-friendly, sustainable solutions to poverty. We don’t believe in relying on hand-to-mouth support. We strive to protect the dignity, independence and future of everyone we meet.

By providing a range of critical support including cash grants, interest-free loan schemes, education, training and tools, we’re not only transforming futures; we’re saving lives.

Save a life today, donate to Islamic Relief.

Fundraising Ideas*

Smarties: Buy 20 tubes of Smarties and give them to 20 of your friends. Your one condition? Once they’ve enjoyed the Smarties, they return the tubes back to you filled with as many £1 coins as they can collect in a week. You’d be surprised how much you can raise using this tactic!

Bake Sale: A true classic. How about adding a theme to your fundraiser depending on the cause you’re raising for? E.g. a blue theme if you’re fundraising to provide clean water. Or you could really go for it, sell other homemade delights alongside your delicious baked goods like milkshakes, smoothies or classic desserts (trifle, cake & custard etc.).

Car Wash: Probably the most fun thing you could do, and all you need is water, a bucket, a sponge and some car shampoo. You could do this at your school or workplace, or you could even ask a local business to let you use their grounds/car park. Try make it more interesting by doing it in fancy dress and get your family and friends in on all the fun!
