Rebuilding lives and livelihoods in Nepal

Islamic Relief ran a project to help support vulnerable families whose lives were torn apart amid the Covid-19 pandemic, in partnership with Lumbini Integrated Development Committee (LIDO).

This project, which focused on livelihood recovery, aimed to uplift communities in the Sudhodhan municipality of the Kaplivastu district.

For families like Ram Krishna Lodh’s, who were already struggling on the edge of survival, the pandemic exacerbated their difficulties. Tragically, Ram Krishna’s wife took her own life, leaving him to navigate life’s challenges alone. However, his life took a positive turn when Islamic Relief provided him with the skills and tools needed to rebuild his life.

I learnt nursery bedding from the training which I adopted in my agricultural practice. As a result, 90% of the seeds were successful. I was able to harvest the vegetables before the season, which has helped me get higher rates than usual. My daily sale is NPR 3,000 (equivalent to USD 23), and I am also saving money

The impact of Islamic Relief’s project has been profound. It has empowered vulnerable families to rebuild their lives and improve their livelihoods. Through training and assistance, those such as Ram Krishna have gained new skills and knowledge, enabling them to enhance their agricultural practices and increase their productivity. This has helped provide a sustainable source of income and instilled a sense of pride, self-reliance, and hope for the future.

Empowering communities worldwide to become self-sufficient

Islamic Relief’s Funding Futures projects have been instrumental in creating transformative change in the lives of individuals and communities across the globe. By focusing on livelihood interventions and supporting vulnerable families, these projects address the root causes of poverty and empower individuals to create a better future for themselves and their families.

The success stories emerging from projects like the ‘COVID Livelihood Recovery Support’ Islamic Relief strongly believes that creating sustainable livelihood solutions tailored to the needs of communities is one of the most impactful ways to support vulnerable individuals. Through our Funding Futures initiative, we strive to provide the necessary tools and resources to help break the cycle of poverty, not just for the present generation but for future generations as well.

Helping to empower communities to become self-reliant is a form of Sadaqah Jariah, which is greatly rewarded in Islam, and the rewards continue so long as others continue to benefit from the gift.

The famous Hadith reminds us of the everlasting impact of certain good deeds. It states:

When a man dies, all his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous son who prays for him.

Hadith | Sahih Muslim

By supporting sustainable livelihood projects, we are not only fulfilling our duty to help those in need but also reaping the rewards of ongoing charity that benefit individuals, families, and communities for generations to come.
