The Itinerary

13th June – Arrival Marrakech Menara Airport
You will be met at the airport and transferred to the riad (hotel) in the center of city. Once you have settled in, you will be free to experience the famous Djemaa el Fna square where you can find entertainers performing, a myriad of food stalls all lit up with the smells to accompany them and a general melee of activity.

14th June – Marrakech – Imlil (1740m)  – Tizi Mzik (2200m) – Azib N’Tamsoult (2250m)
You will be picked up from your hotel in Marrakech at around 8.00am. Accompanied by an English- speaking guide you will be driven south up over gorges and high passes of the upper valleys to the Berber town of Imlil (1740m). Here is where we shall leave our vehicle to take a welcome glass of mint tea in our guesthouse prior to setting out for 5hour hike towards Azib Tamsoult Refuge passing via Tizi Mzik Pass, from where we will have amazing views over the Berber valleys. Overnight at a nice Refuge in Tamsoult.

15th June – Azib N’Tamsoult (2250m)  – Tizi N’Aguelzim (3600m) – Refuge Toubkal (3207m)
Today involves a fairly stiff hike of 6-7hours out of the Azzaden Valley to the Toubkal refuge over the Aguelzim mountain pass at 3600m. Lunch will be taken with spectacular views over the Atlas mountain range. Overnight in the Toubkal refuge where you will likely be sharing a bunk room with other trekkers getting ready to take on Toubkal early the next morning.

16th June – Refuge Toubkal (3207m) –  Summit Mount Toubkal (4167m) – Refuge (3207m)
A long day ahead of 7-8 hours of hiking today, as you have a pre-dawn start for the ascent of Toubkal(4167m). The terrain varies and can be steep in places. You will also highly likely cross patches of snow and certainly some sliding scree. There are some great views from the infamous triangle that marks the summit. Trekking poles are an advantage on this mountain, especially in the scree on the descent.

17th June – Refuge (3207m) – Sidi Chamharouch (2310m) – Aremd (1940m)
After breakfast, you shall set off for a 4hour hike towards the north along steeply descending, zigzagging trails of the higher slopes of the Valley of the Assif n’Isouhouanem n’Ouagounss towards the Shrine of Sidi Chamharouch. Set beside a waterfall, there is a pilgrimage ‘marabout’ shrine here, probably the remnant of a pre-Islamic culture, but forbidden to non-Muslims.  Another 2 hours downhill will allow to get to the village of Aremd where will have lunch and an afternoon of exploring the area.

18th June – Aremd (1940m) – Imlil (1740m) – Marrakech
After breakfast, you have 40 minute easy walk down to the village of Imlil, passing through some berber villages and visiting some waterfalls.  Once we arrive to the center we will meet your transport to take you back to Marrakesh.  Upon arrival In Marrakesh at around noon, check in the Riad/Hotel and you can take the afternoon for leisure to explore the city.

The Cause: Provide Water for Life

Water is the key to all life. Yet across the globe, a staggering 785 million people are going thirsty each and every day. Without safe and clean water to drink, these people risk dehydration, disease and at worse: death.

“The best charity is giving water to drink and He was the most generous in giving charity.” [Ahmad]

Here at Islamic Relief, we’re working worldwide in over 40 countries across the globe to ensure that not only do communities have a safe and reliable source of water for today, but for life too.

By signing up to this challenge, the funds you raise will help provide clean and safe water to families in desperate need. Sign up now and help save lives.

Fundraising Ideas

Smarties: Buy 20 tubes of Smarties and give them to 20 of your friends. Your one condition? Once they’ve enjoyed the Smarties, they return the tubes back to you filled with as many £1 coins as they can collect in a week. You’d be surprised how much you can raise using this tactic!

Bake Sale: A true classic. How about adding a theme to your fundraiser depending on the cause you’re raising for? E.g. a blue theme if you’re fundraising to provide clean water. Or you could really go for it, sell other homemade delights alongside your delicious baked goods like milkshakes, smoothies or classic desserts (trifle, cake & custard etc.).

Car Wash: Probably the most fun thing you could do, and all you need is water, a bucket, a sponge and some car shampoo. You could do this at your school or workplace, or you could even ask a local business to let you use their grounds/car park. Try make it more interesting by doing it in fancy dress and get your family and friends in on all the fun!
