Islamic Relief UK release statement in response to heatwaves across the world

In response to heatwaves across the world, Islamic Relief UK said:

“Recent heatwaves and devastating fires across the world should be a stark reminder to us all of the reality of climate change.

“Islamic Relief sees first-hand the devastation caused by global warming. In East Africa, drought has pushed 43 million people into hunger and in need of emergency assistance. Last year Pakistan saw over 33 million people affected by the worst floods the country has seen in generations.

“What we are now witnessing are the worst projections of temperature changes first outlined in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report in 2014.

“This should now be a wake-up call to everyone. The UK government and the international community need to seriously tackle the causes of climate change and its impacts, and effectively back the loss and damage fund agreement made at the COP 27 climate summit to help those affected by the crisis.”
