The Cause: Equipping a new Maternity Ward in Gaza
The Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip is the only hospital that provides maternity services in the North and Gaza governorates.
In 2019, admissions to gynaecology and maternity wards reached 28,551, causing the hospital to struggle with patients and new cases. Due to this huge need, a new hospital wing was constructed in 2020, which includes a maternity unit. Sadly the the Ministry is currently unable to purchase the necessary equipment for this new maternity unit.
The ongoing blockage and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic have further weakened the healthcare system.
Islamic Relief is working to enhance specialised health services and to provide the new maternity department with urgent equipment, machines and furniture to ensure maternity services can be run at full capacity.
The equipment that will be provided from this project includes new inpatient beds, ECG machines, pulse oximeters, ultrasound technology, examination beds, nursing trollies, medication cabinets and wheelchairs.
