Dare to Trek Kilimanjaro!

At a colossal 5,895m, Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes to ever break through the Earth’s crust and is often referred to as the ‘roof of Africa!’

As you ascend through farmland, into the lush rainforest that gives way to alpine meadows, and finally traverse across a lunar landscape; you will reach the peak of your Mount Kilimanjaro trek. Immerging through the clouds, the snow-capped mountain of Kilimanjaro provides the stunning backdrop to the National Park as herds of elephants graze alongside giraffes and zebras, as they keep a watchful lookout for lions and hyenas.

By no means will this be an easy feat, you will be pushed to your limits with back-to-back days of trekking. But your efforts will provide water for life for communities in Africa!

The Itinerary

The hike to the summit of Kilimanjaro will take 5 days with the 6th day bringing you back to our starting point in Moshi. With an average of 8 hours of trekking each day, this challenge is not for the faint hearted!

The days to the summit will be slow and steady with an accilamitisation day built in to get your body used to the thinner air over 3000m.

Download the guide below to read a detailed itinerary, a breakdown of the kind of kit you will need and a detailed training plan to help you prepare for the challenge!

The best charity is giving water

Water charity is the most rewarding of all as water is the key to all life. Yet across the globe, a staggering 785 million people are going thirsty each and every day. Water is a vital part of survival for so many who don’t have access to this basic human necessity. Without safe and clean water to drink, these people are at risk of dehydration, disease, and at worse: death.

Every day communities across the globe are in need of safe sources of water for drinking, washing, cooking, rearing livestock, and watering crops. Yet for these millions of people, this simple essential is out of reach.

We’re working in over 40 countries across the globe to ensure that not only do communities have a safe and reliable source of water for today, but for life too.

When we build a water system, we ensure communities have a sustainable source of clean water for years to come. We recognise the risk of drought, displacement, and disease and with over thirty years of expertise we know that simply drilling wells and installing water pumps cannot solve the water crisis.

We bypass short-term interventions and high running costs to instead provide long-term sustainable solutions, installing irrigation systems, building water tanks, training communities, distributing hygiene kits, and rehabilitating viable water systems.

Provision of Drinking Water Facilities in Balochistan (PDWFB) Project saw a solar-powered water system installed beneficial to 292 beneficiaries. The project is funded by IR Sweden.

Fundraising Ideas

Smarties: Buy 20 tubes of Smarties and give them to 20 of your friends. Your one condition? Once they’ve enjoyed the Smarties, they return the tubes back to you filled with as many £1 coins as they can collect in a week. You’d be surprised how much you can raise using this tactic!

Bake Sale: A true classic. How about adding a theme to your fundraiser depending on the cause you’re raising for? E.g. a blue theme if you’re fundraising to provide clean water. Or you could really go for it, sell other homemade delights alongside your delicious baked goods like milkshakes, smoothies or classic desserts (trifle, cake & custard etc.).

Car Wash: Probably the most fun thing you could do, and all you need is water, a bucket, a sponge and some car shampoo. You could do this at your school or workplace, or you could even ask a local business to let you use their grounds/car park. Try make it more interesting by doing it in fancy dress and get your family and friends in on all the fun!
