One in eight people are living with the pain and deprivation of hunger. It’s unfair, unjust and entirely preventable. We believe that ending food poverty achievable in our lifetime but only if we speak out and campaign for change.
Islamic Relief teamed up with over 100 aid agencies, pressure groups and faith organisations to tackle hunger and malnutrition as part of the ‘Enough Food for Everyone IF’ campaign. This was of the largest coalitions of its kind in the UK since Make Poverty History and was backed by a number of philanthropists and celebrities including Desmond Tutu and Bill Gates.
In 2013, we called upon Prime Minister David Cameron to use the UK’s G8 presidency to tackle action on the root causes of hunger in the poorest countries worldwide.
We engaged the Muslim community to lobby their MPs on hunger issues and take part in campaigning activities. Alhamdulillah, the London launch event was attended by more than 1,000 campaign supporters. Islamic Relief’s delegation included 50 members of staff, supporters and volunteers.
Thanks to your support, as a coalition we helped to secure a whopping £8 billion for overseas aid. We demanded that the United Nations work harder to ensure safe delivery of aid inside Syria, as well as redouble their efforts to secure peace in the region. We also urged wealthier governments to cancel the unjust debt owed to them by poverty-crippled Pakistan.
Thank you for standing with us and speaking out to help end world hunger.
