Emergency response to Myanmar monsoon floods

Emergency response to Myanmar monsoon floods

Islamic Relief Myanmar is responding to severe monsoon floods that have killed eight people in the south-east Asian country and affected over 470,000 people.

The latest flooding comes just a year after the worst floods in decades killed over 100 people and left thousands homeless.

The latest disaster  has affected eight of the 15 regions within Myanmar: Kachin, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Mon, Yangon and Ayeyarwady.

Our team on the ground in Myanmar has identified specific needs and has planned to implement an emergency relief and recovery response. The planned response, funded by Islamic Relief UK, will provide emergency relief aid in the form of food, shelter kits and non-food items .

“Our work in Myanmar in responding quickly to the needs of those affected is yet another example of how the generosity of our UK donors really is going a long way,” says Samina Haq, Islamic Relief UK’s Head of Programmes. “ In the last month alone we have been able to support emergency relief efforts in Bangladesh, India and Mali as soon as disaster hit, helping thousands that would otherwise have been left waiting whilst appeals were launched and money was raised to help.”

Please donate towards the Global Emergencies Fund which will enable us to respond without delay to emergencies like Myanmar.
