Dundee underlines cultural credentials by hosting Ramadan event with Islamic Relief

Deputy Lord Provost Christina Roberts and Head of Islamic Relief Scotland Habib Malik will welcome politicians, community leaders and other dignitaries to the event at Dundee city council (14 City Square, DD1 3BY) from 11am to 1pm. Over 40,000 Scottish Muslims will fast for 30 days when Ramadan begins next month, with many marking their religious observance by donating to charities like Islamic Relief.

“Islamic Relief launches a major fundraising drive and public awareness campaign each Ramadan, and this is the first time we have launched in Dundee,” says Habib Malik. “I am delighted that Dundee is hosting this event, and I’m looking forward to seeing some good friends and making some new ones among a mixed audience of Muslims and non-Muslims.

“Ramadan is a time for deep reflection, when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and give to charity to support those less fortunate than themselves. We are honoured that so many Muslims choose to channel their charitable giving through Islamic Relief, and I am proud to be able to share the message of Ramadan and the great work that Islamic Relief is doing around the world with a diverse audience.”
