Turkiye Syria Earthquake

An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude has hit Southern Turkiye and Northern Syria.

On Monday 6th February 2022, an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude occurred in southern Turkiye and northern Syria. 10 provinces have been affected including Kayseri, Malatya, Adana Diyarbakır, Gaziantep & Hatay at 4.17 am this morning, followed by a second and third earthquakes of magnitudes 6.4 and 6.5 minutes after.

Currently at least 1,200 people are confirmed dead in both Turkiye and Syria, with the number expected to rise further. Gaziantep has highest death toll among Turkish cities so far. At least 5,300 people are injured across the provinces in Turkey, with many more trapped following the collapsing of hundreds buildings. There is extensive damage across multiple cities and towns, with ongoing rescue operations taking place to reach more people and help save lives. In Northern Syria, many buildings have collapsed across several cities and villages. 312 people confirmed dead and hundreds more casualties.
