5 Simple Ways You Can #ShowTheLove for Allah’s Creation

It’s a special time here at Islamic Relief. We’re showing the love – and no: we’re not talking about Valentine’s Day! We’re spreading the love of the beautiful creation of Allah (SWT).

This February (from 5th -24th) – as part of The Climate Coalition – we’ve joined the “Show The Love” campaign. This is part of our ongoing work to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change. And well, what better way to remind ourselves to protect the planet than by showing the love of Allah’s creation to inspire others and remind ourselves of the blessing He bestowed upon us?

That’s why this month, you’ll see us with green hearts showing our love for everything green and dear which we want to protect from the harmful effects of climate change. But it doesn’t stop there – we need you to get involved and help spread the message!

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “The Earth is sweet and green and verily Allah (SWT) has made you stewards of it” so let’s go green and “show the love” this February! With that in mind, here’s five top tips to #LoveAllahsCreation and inspire even further change.

1. Lobby your MP

It’s critical that we call on the government to take further action to combat climate change. Writing to your MP is quick and easy – simply join our campaign here with our pre-written email template. Let us know if your MP responds to your email by emailing us to keep us in the loop!

2. Get online

As we all know, social media is a great way to make some noise and join fellow campaigners in a shared cause. So, for those of you on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, send us your pictures and messages that demonstrate your love for Allah’s Creation and share our #ShareTheLoveVideo.

Tag us and use the hashtags #ShowTheLove and #LoveAllahsCreation so you can show your love for Allah’s wonderful Creation!

3. Talk, talk and talk!

Inspiring others to go green is incredibly important so make sure you talk to your friends about what we can do to tackle climate change. When it comes to Allah’s wonderful creation: what do you love that you want to protect from climate change? What lessons can we take from the Qur’an and Sunnah to preserve the natural environment?

You could reach out to your local mosque committee and Imam to encourage them to get involved and give a talk. Perhaps they could give a Friday khutbah (sermon) on climate change or maybe the local madrasah could run some fun educational activities for local children? Alternatively, why not organise a local event such as a debate or workshop in your community to help raise awareness? Or you could organise a film screening – for example, you could watch a feature-length documentary like Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ or Leonardo di Caprio’s ‘The 11th Hour’, or you could watch a Hollywood blockbuster that touches on the subject like ‘Snowpiercer’, ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ or even ‘Ice Age’! The possibilities are endless but definitely impactful!

4. Wear your heart for all to see

When you’re out and about, why not put on a “show the love” green heart sticker – simply email us to get yours and we’ll send them out to you. Or instead, why not get creative and make your own? Grab some felt, glitter or whatever you can find and bring together your friends and family for a fun craft session!

5. Pray to Allah (SWT)

As Muslims, every action should start with the right intention and as Allah (SWT) is the Best of Planners, let’s reach out to Him to support and guide us to help make the world a safer, greener space. Without His support, nothing is possible but with His grace, everything is possible!

We really have been blessed with a beautiful planet, so let’s work to make as much difference as we can this month. So #ShowTheLove and don’t forget to show us your hard work in the process! Make sure you tag us and use the hashtags #ShowTheLove and #LoveAllahsCreation.

Join us in telling the world: we love Allah’s Creation – climate change has to stop!
