Warmth for Kaltrina

Kaltrina was four months old when her father died. Now aged five, her mother struggles to make ends meet without the money and security he brought the family.

Kaltrina likes being outdoors and she especially likes the spring and summer months when it is warm enough to play outside with her older brother, Albin.

But winters in Kosova can reach a temperature of -10°C. Kaltrina’s family struggle to find enough firewood to get then through the harsh winters so the children often fall ill. The family lives in a house made of concrete, which lets water in when it rains, leaving their belongings damp.

With the help of your zakat donations from last year, Islamic Relief was able to provide hundreds of orphaned children in Kosova with winter clothes, shoes and duvets.

“It is very difficult to be dependent on others,” said Kaltrina’s mother, Xhemile, “but it would be much harder without the support of Islamic Relief. You have become part of our family.”

Kaltrina and her brother are sponsored through Islamic Relief’s One-to-one Orphan Sponsorship programme, which provides money to the families of orphaned children to help care for them and make ends meet.

“You helped us with a regular income and also with this winter project which was very helpful to us. All we used to have were old, torn and thin clothes. With the support of Islamic Relief, I hope that my children will be able to overcome their misfortune and become self-sufficient.”

Last year your zakat helped hundreds of Kosovan children to face a bitter winter. This year help us to comfort even more people.
