780 million people – 1 in every 9 – don’t have access to clean water

Water is so much more than just a drink: it’s needed to cook food, water crops and livestock, wash hands and cooking pots to stop diseases spreading... Through our Water Solutions fund, Islamic Relief aims to give people all over the world water for life. We don’t just hand out water to those who are thirsty – we dig wells, construct micro-dams and build systems to capture and purify rainwater, helping communities access clean water for years to come, so they don’t need our help any more.
This is a form of sadaqah jariyah, or ongoing charity. The rewards of giving to Water Solutions will outlive us – The Prophet, peace be upon him, said “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except three: a continuing charity...” (Muslim).
Water gives life. Allah tells us in the Qur’an: “we made from water every living thing” (21:30).
