| Noor Jehan Abdul Majid lives in Ampara, Sri Lanka, with her husband and three children. The family’s home was destroyed by the 2004 tsunami.
Noor’s husband works as a day labourer in the country’s capital Colombo; ten hours away from home. Noor supplements the family’s income by growing vegetables such as chillies and horseradish. She also provides free tuition to local children in maths and English.
“I do this because I want to help the local children to improve themselves,” she says.
Islamic Relief built a new home for Noor and her family as part of its post-tsunami reconstruction.
“I am very thankful for all the help extended to us. I want to thank all the people who came to our assistance after our homes were destroyed by the tsunami,” says Noor.
