| Living Independently Again
Sixty-one-year-old Kumar Nayagam lost his wife and home in the tsunami. He was finding it hard to support himself financially and was also suffering emotionally as he mourned the death of his wife.
Islamic Relief provided Kumar with farming tools, including water pumps and seeds to help him rebuild his livelihood.
Now Kumar spends his mornings in the field and in the afternoon goes to market in order to sell his produce; meaning that he is able to meet his daily needs.
“At present I have 2,500 chilli plants, 500 long bean plants and I have also planted ladies’ fingers, tomatoes and different kinds of green leaves,” he says.
“Islamic Relief has changed my life completely. I have gained confidence and have started to earn and live independently,” he adds. |
