The Jubilee Debt Campaign held an interfaith discussion about ‘justice not charity’ from a faith perspective at Birmingham University. Amongst the speakers was an ex student who has a rich history associated with the University. Awarded an honorary doctorate by the University as well as one of the founding members of Islamic Relief amongst other humanitarian organisations Dr Hanny El Banna captivated the audience by talking about ‘justice not charity’ not just from an Islamic perspective but also provided an insight from the two other Abrahamic faiths: Christianity and Judaism.
Dr Hanny shared with delegates that Islamic Relief had been started in the very room the discussion was taking place. The interfaith discussion featured Ravinder Kaur Nijjar, Co chair of the European Women of Faith Network (EWFN) who spoke from a Sikh perspective and Steve Miller Co-chair and Chair of Tzedek who spoke from a Jewish perspective.
