Bangladesh Floods

17/08/2011

Continuous monsoon rain for over a week and the flow of water from the upstream border areas have caused flooding to 13 of Bangladesh’s 64 districts. The situation in the affected areas is deteriorating day by day, with the flood forecasting centre mentioning that rivers are flowing above danger levels at eight different points.

Approximately 700,000 people have been stranded by the floods, with many living under the open sky on higher grounds with no shelter.

Islamic Relief is on the ground, providing temporary shelter and food to approximately 3,000 people and monitoring the situation closely on a regular basis.
