Hiam Ali Yousef lives in the Baqaa Palestinian Refugee Camp in Jordan. She is a
beneficiary of Islamic Relief’s Ramadan Food Package Programme, which aims to provide
food assistance to widows, the elderly, orphans, the disabled and other vulnerable
people during the month of Ramadan.
She lives in a small house with her son Ali (12) and her elderly parents. Ali’s
father passed away in January from heart disease. The family do not have a source
of income - Hiam and her parents are supported by her brothers, who pay them a small
amount of money every month.
Ali looks pale and malnourished. His mother explained that he suffered from
appendicitis and underwent an operation to remove his appendix. He does not attend
school, however Hiam is trying to enrol him, but the process is very complicated.
Ali is attending Quran classes, where he memorises the Quran.
Hiam is very grateful for the food parcel, which Islamic Relief provides to families
such as Hiam’s to assist them and give them respite from their daily difficulties.
