It is important that educational establishments introduce their students to a variety
of ideas and theories to allow them to understand and make sense of a complicated
world, and therefore to become better citizens.
Islamic Relief has responded to this challenge by offering schools, colleges, universities,
community groups, and professional organisations with the opportunity to book one
of our speakers..
What we offer
Our most popular talk is about Charity & Islam; but we have provided talks on
a variety of topics; e.g. Environment and Islam, Debt & Islam, which help the
children to explore the root causes of poverty but from a Muslim perspective.
Schools Workshops
Our schools workshops typically last between 45 minutes to an hour, and we often
visit schools for half or full-day sessions where our workshops are delivered to
different classes in rotation.
This option is becoming increasingly popular as schools have been organising off-curriculum
days and using the time instead to help their students fully explore various topics.
We are currently developing capacity to be able to respond positively to the increasing
number of requests for a visit from an Islamic Relief speaker. At present however,
capacity is very limited and we can only offer the service in some parts of the
UK. Please do contact us with your request though, and we will endeavour to accommodate
you.
Community & Professional Organisations
Our training sessions for community and professional organisations are detailed
and would allow delegates to benefit from our experience of 25 years as a grassroots
organisation within the UK Muslim community.
Our assemblies, workshops, and training sessions have proved highly successful with
repeat bookings from teacher-training universities who have used us to provide cultural
awareness training to their students.
Community & Professional Organisations
To make what we do more sustainable, we have recently started to charge travel expences
plus £50 for half-day workshops and £100 for full-day sessions. These
fees were set in consultation with teachers and schools to make sure that they were
affordable.
Under this arrangement, we would deliver a specially prepared presentation based
upon what you as a teacher, would particularly keen for your pupils to understand
from the session.
