Prophet Muhammad (saws) said, “There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Judgement with its horns, hair, and hooves (to be weighed). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart.” ( Hadith: Tirmidi, Ibn Majah )
What is Qurbani?Qurbani is a practice performed to mark the end of the holy Hajj pilgrimage, this celebration is known as Eid ul Adha. It is a celebration in recognition of the belief, humility and devotion shown to Allah by his Prophets, Ibrahim and Ismail - peace be upon them both. Prophet Ibrahim received revelation from Allah to sacrifice his son, Ismail. On hearing this, Ismail immediately agreed, as he understood this as a command from Allah. At the crucial moment of sacrifice, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram in acknowledgement of their sincere faith. To commemorate this supreme act, Muslims the world over choose to sacrifice a particular animal on Eid ul Adha. A significant portion of the meat from the animal is given to the poor. In doing so, they join a huge humanitarian effort to reach out to those who most need their help.
When is Hajj 2012?The 6 days of Hajj are expected to fall between October 24th - 29th 2012
