| Denisa is 16 years old and lives in Shkodra, a city in the north west of Albania. She attends the local foreign language school where she studies German. She is a good student, enjoys her studies and hopes to continue her education at university.
Despite being a good student, Denisa feels that she can still improve her learning and has recently enrolled on a German language course at the Daut Borici Community and Training Centre (CTC). Since joining, she has been impressed with the teacher, teaching methods and course content. Having previously completed a course in computer studies she feels that the CTC is both very professional and a real benefit to the community. She is not the only one in her family to have benefited from the CTC. Last year her elder brother attended an English language course.
The CTC was established in 1994 by Islamic Relief to try and alleviate some of the problems caused by the high unemployment and low skills that are prevalent throughout Albania. As well as language and computer training the Centre runs vocational courses that include sewing, tailoring and handicrafts. It also runs daily kindergartens where over 50 youngsters attend each day. It is a community centre where people come together in a positive and friendly environment.
Denisa says that she likes living in Shkodra. Once she has completed her studies she hopes to use her education to build a better life for her and her family in the city at the same time as supporting projects such as the CTC.
